5. Educate patient, “if at any time the site becomes red, painful, swollen or starts to leak, call the RN right away b/c the IV site may be going bad.”

2. Gently remove tape, bandages, or ties. Use nondominant
hand to support dressing and with dominant hand pull tape
parallel to skin and toward dressing
3. Remove solid dressings being careful not to pull the skin. Note the size and # of gauzes removed…
4. Using sterile technique, prepare sterile field. Open sterile drape holding only the outer 1-inch edge and lay on table
5. Measure wound (LxWxD)
6. To apply damp to dry dressing
7. Removing absorbent pad from under the patient
8. Label the specimen, w/ date, time, initials, and location of would. Place the culture tube in a biohazard bag and send to lab
