- Administering Meds
- Perform 3 checks (providers orders vs. MAR) | preparing the medication | At patient’s bedside
- Allergies
- Obtain all necessary supplies
4. 5 RIGHTS FOR EACH MEDICATION - Provide appropriate patient education for each medication
- Administration of IM Injection
- W/draw med from vial (15 points)
- Administering IM injection (15 points)
– VG site = supine/turned to side
– VLM = anterior lateral aspect of thigh
both are Z-track method
- Administering IV Solution
- Gather equipment, check IV fluid for exp date, type of fluid, color, any particular matter in fluid?
- Prepare the IV solution tubing
- Insert the IV tubing into the IV pump. Set the volume to be infused
- Check IV for S/Sx of infiltration, pain, or redness, phlebitis…
- Educate patient, “if at any time the site becomes red, painful, swollen or starts to leak, call the RN right away b/c the IV site may be going bad.”
- Wound Care- Irrigation, culture specimen and applying damp Dressing (25 points)

2. Gently remove tape, bandages, or ties. Use nondominant
hand to support dressing and with dominant hand pull tape
parallel to skin and toward dressing
3. Remove solid dressings being careful not to pull the skin. Note the size and # of gauzes removed…
4. Using sterile technique, prepare sterile field. Open sterile drape holding only the outer 1-inch edge and lay on table
5. Measure wound (LxWxD)
6. To apply damp to dry dressing
7. Removing absorbent pad from under the patient
8. Label the specimen, w/ date, time, initials, and location of would. Place the culture tube in a biohazard bag and send to lab

Equipment Needed:
– 35mL filled with irrigation solution
– 19g needle/angio catheter
– Non-bacteriostatic saline
– Gauze
– Swab/Q-tip
- Apply Bilateral Upper Extremities Soft Restraints (10 points)

– 2 ID’fiers
– restraints for arms
– gloves
– side rails lowered
