In the age of exploration (1800’s), Europe used their military strength to trade and exploit resource rich but militarily weak countries. China had nothing to trade and wanted only silver. This lead the British to flood markets with opium, getting Chinese addicted so they’d trade for it. They created an artificial market. Before the century of humiliation China governed a third of worlds population
