What was the Curragh mutiny ?

A

The War Office doubted the loyalty of officers stationed in Ireland who came from Ulster. A message was sent to the Commanding officer in Ireland indicating that if conflict arose, officers from Ulster would be allowed to be ‘absent from duty’ but if other officers were not prepared to carry out orders they would be ‘dismissed from the service’. The British public was appalled at this mutiny and War Minister Colonel Seely was forced to resign
