A database management system is the software used for storing, managing and retrieving certain data within a database.
Data
Information, especially facts and figures, collected to be examined and considered and used to help decision-making, or information in an electronic form that can be stored and used by a computer.

The value of information
Transactional Information
Encompasses all of the the information contained within a single business process or unit of work. Its primary purpose is to support daily operational tasks.
Analytical Information
Encompasses all organisational information. Its primary purpose is to support the performing of managerial analysis tasks.
Information Timeliness
The availability of the outputinformationat a time suitable for its use.
Real-time data
Information that is delivered immediately after collection. There is no delay in the timeliness of the information provided
Real-time system
An information processing system which has to respond to externally generated input stimuli within a finite and specified period
Information quality
The qualityof the content ofinformationsystems. If the attributes that definequalityofinformationare of goodqualityor of high value then theinformationis said to have goodquality.
Data integrity
Refers to maintaining and assuring the accuracy and consistency of data over its entire life-cycle.
Data inconsistency
Occurs when the same data element has different values.
Information Governance
The way that information within a business is organised and handled in order to meet legal, ethical and safety requirements.
Policies
Are general guidelines that a business creates so that all decisions are consistent with the business’s aims.
Procedures
are step-by-step instructions on how to perform a process or a task.
