Data Visualization
Presentation of data in graphical format, helps decision makers see analytics visually
Why use charts in business?
- To convey information and make sense of data
- To demonstrate a relationship between values
- To help with decision making
Column Chart
A chart in which data is represented in terms of columns (e.g. to show profit over past 5 years)
Stacked Column Chart
A chart in which data series are stacked one on top of the other in vertical columns (e.g. to show expenses categories per season)
Bar Chart
A chart in which data is represented in terms of horizontal bars (e.g. to show avg. time spent on smartphones only)
Line Chart
Show data as a line where each successive data point is connected to the previous (e.g. to show growth of info over time)
Pie Chart
Looks like a pie, each slice represents a particular category of data (e.g. business market size)
A Column Chart is Good For….
Comparisons with seven or less categories (small)
A Stacked Column Chart is Good For…
To show a composition (not more than 3-4) when the composing parts are small
A Bar Chart is Good For….
When the number of categories is greater than 7
A Line Chart is Good For….
Displaying trends over a period of time when there are more than 20 data points
A Pie Chart is Good For….
Simple Compositions or a part-to -whole relationship
