Data Terms Flashcards
Accuracy
Data should not contain errors.
Bias
High quality data will limit bias. Key stakeholders should not be used to collect as they have will bias.
Integrity
“A method of describing the overall accuracy, authenticity, correctness, reasonableness, relevance and timeliness of data. Data with high integrity is more reliable and trustworthy, while data without integrity should not be used in calculations or be trusted to make decisions.
“ - (VCAA Study Design Glossary, 2025)
Almost a self-referencing characteristic.
If an untrustworthy entity has gained access to the data, the integrity will be lowered.
If a data leak has occurred and the passwords are included. The integrity of the passwords is weaker. To improve the integrity of the password you should change it.
Relevance
Make sure the data is related to the topic.
Reliability
From a reliable source.
Timeliness
Authenticity
Size
how big in terms of storage
Structure
how the data is solved
Accessibility
Can everyone access this data/information.
Data stored on my laptop hard drive has low accessibility, whereas if it were stored in Google Drive / OneDrive / iCloud that would make it much more accessible and easier to share.
Clarity
Is the data/information clear. Is the message clearly communicated.
Context
Where is the data coming from, what assumptions does the provider of data/information make.
For example, when a school celebrates their VCE results. The assumption is that the audience knows what VCE is and what the result means.
