Define Data, give an example
Raw Facts and Figures they have no meaning
12, 3, 649, John, Devon etc..
Define information, give an example
Data which has been processed by the computer. It has context which makes it meaningful
Car 1 - 40mph
Car 2 - 45mph
Car 3 - 37mph
Define Knowledge, give an example
Derived from information by applying rules to it, using information to make decisions.
Car number 2 in the fastest in the race.
Explain the relationships between Data, information & knowledge.
Data has potential meaning because it represents events, amounts, individuals etc.
Information adds context to the data. This information will need to be processed into a form that is easy to understand.
People with knowledge of the context of the information will then be able to draw conclusions, make decisions, identify problems etc.
