How is quota sampling done ?
The population is divided into groups according to a given characteristic. The size of each group determines the proportion of the sample that should have that characteristic. The interviewer would meet people assess their group and then, after interview, allocated them into the appropriate quota.
How is stratified sampling done?
The population is divided into mutually exclusive strata and a random sample is taken from each.
What is a continuous variable?
A variable that can take any value in a given range
What is a discrete variable?
A variable that can take only specific values in a given range.
What is the class width?
The difference between the upper and lower class boundaries.
What is the midpoint?
It’s the average of the class boundaries.
What do class boundaries tell you?
The maximum and minimum values that belong in each class.
How do you find the no.of people sample in a stratum.
number in stratum/ number in population x overall sample size.
What’s a census?
It observes or measures every member of a population.
What is a sample?
It’s a selection of observations taken from a subset of the population which is used to find out information about the population as a whole.
What is a population?
The whole set of items that are of interest.
What is a sample unit?
Individual units of a population
What is a sampling frame?
A list of sample units of a populations that are individually named or numbered.
