Data And Sampling Flashcards
What is raw data?
Data that is collected before it is ordered, grouped or rounded
What is quantitative data?
Data measured in an amount eg an amount
What is qualitative data?
Data that is not measured
What is an example of qualitative and quantitative data?
Qualitative- Description of the weather
Quantitative- time in 100m
What are the 2 types of quantitative data?
Discrete and continuous
What is discrete data?
Data that can only take particular values on a numerical scale
What is continuous data?
Data that can take value on a continuous numerical scale
What is an example of discrete and continuous data?
Discrete- shoe size
Continuous- foot length
What can categorical data be sorted into?
Non-overlapping categories
If a number is missing and you know the mean of the numbers, how do you find the missing value?
(Number of numbers X mean) - each number= missing value
What is ordinal data?
Data that can be written in order or given a numerical rating scale
What is bivariate data?
Data that involves pairs of related data
What is multivariate data?
Data that involves sets of 3 or more related data values
How can discrete data be organised?
Classes that do not overlap
How should grouped continuous data be classed?
By using intervals that include all possible values and don’t have gaps in between them
