Data Flashcards
what are the three types of health outcomes?
record-based, biological or clinical, clinician or patient recorded
how would you measure cognitive functioning?
self reported complaints, cognitive test scores
what are the three types of validity?
construct validity
content validity
face validity
what are the two types of construct?
convergent - are constructs that should be related, actually related?
discriminant - doesn’t measure what it should - may be correlations but will not be that strong
what is content validity?
the outcome will measure all facets of a given construct
what is face validity?
the outcome appears to measure what it should do
how can you measure reliability?
test-retest - consistency over time
inter-rater reliability - different assessors
what is responsiveness?
testing if the outcome is sensitive enough - can it change over time when needed
what are the uses of health outcomes?
clinical trials - does it work treatment trials - which is the best national and international variation identification - equality comparisons for trusts performance targets and monitoring
what are some data properties?
continuous, discrete, nominal (categories), ordinal (categories ranked)
what are common issues?
selection bias, timing, missing data, response shift (how valued something is), differential item functioning - language etc affecting response
