When did the dark ages start?
After the fall of Rome and then, lasted for about 1000 years.
Who invaded Europe after the fall of Rome?
Barbarians.
Why was the Roman Catholic Church so important?
The Church united people, it encouraged learning, and made laws. Because of this the Church grew rich.
Who was a good ruler and the leader of the Franks? And had bad sons?
Charlemagne. Then his sons ruled and Europe was not safe.
What is feudalism?
It was a system that helped kings keep there land and people safe.
What is a manor?
The land the nobles ruled.
How did the feudal system work?
Kings gave land to nobles. Nobles paid taxes to the kings and fought for them. The nobles knights that kept the land safe. Last the peasants were poor and did the farm work.
What helped Europe become safe?
Feudalism.
What were the three time periods?
Ancient times, Medieval times, and modern times.
What factors brought the fall of Rome?
Taxes skyrocketed, morals declined, and the government grew corrupt.
Why did law and order break down in Europe after the fall of Rome?
Government grew corrupt and barbarians invaded.
How did feudalism and the Roman Empire differ?
Feudalism had small manors broken up that each had kings. And the Roman Empire had a vast Empire with one emperor.

Describe the layout of a typical manor…
In the manor they had peasants houses, plots of land, craft shops, a miller carpenter and a blacksmith.
What made a manor self-sufficient?
It had all the things people needed for survival.
How were serfs and slaves differ?
Serfs could not be bought and sold and could own land.
How were serfs able to become free?
They could buy there freedom with their belongings or run and hide for a day and a year.
What is a knights code of conduct?
A chivalry.
What is a professional soldier of medieval times?
Knight.
