Safe dance principles (3)
Awareness of how the body moves
Knowledge of common dance injuries, their cause, prevention and treatment.
A knowledge of the function of warm up and technique exercises
Excessive range is
Forces a joint beyond the safe range
Excessive load
Excessive weight on or through a joint of muscle
Ballistic is
Repetitive dynamic movement that stretches muscle tissue beyond normal range
Sustained is
The holding of a position that placed excessive stress on a muscle group or joint
Repetitive is
Too much repetition that caused injury.
What does warm up do in dance
Physically preps the body
Helps to focus the mind on the lesson of the content
Warm up should last ?
20% of the total length of lesson

Foundation statement for ES1
- Students perform dances with some control over body movement and expression.
- They respond to a range of stimuli, drawing from experience and imagination, exploring the notion that dance is about moving the body to express ideas. -
Students watch dance performances and begin to recognise some basic components of dance.

Students perform dances with some understanding of body movement and expression, to convey ideas, feelings and moods.
They describe the ideas, feelings and moods conveyed by dances.
Foundation statement for S2
- demonstrating a range of performance qualities and increasingly complex movement skills.
- They explore the elements of dance in their own works and how these can convey meaning.
- Students discuss the meaning and purpose of dance works and the roles of the creator and performer.
