define dahl concept
A
axial migration of teeth in their natural state to re-establish ICP when you place restorations in high which may take weeks-months-years.

what happens if pt says they do not want you to drill their tooth?
A
need to explain what might happen (Dahl) and obtain concent
= no prep means no space for wing
- wing design should be 0.7 mm
- once cemented pt may still feel wing but since teeth migrate the teeth will naturally come back together

how does Dahl work?
A
- intrusion (40%) of the anterior teeth in contact with the appliance
- extrusion (60%) of the unopposed posterior teeth

where is the dahl concept commonly used?
A
- increase in interocclusal space needed
- increase in occlusal vertical dimension needed (OVD)
- in case of severe anterior TSL

what are the advantages of Dahl concept?
A
- minimal removal of tooth substance
- restore loss of OVD
- restore face height (antiaging)
- cost effective
