Define Offensive Operations
Combat operations conducted to defeat and destroy the enemy forces and seize terrain, resources and population center. They impose the commanders will on the enemy.
What are the four characteristics of Offense?
(CATS) Concentration, Audacity, Tempo, Surprise.
What is Concentration?
An overwhelming massing of effects of combat power to achieve a single purpose.
What is Audacity?
Boldly executing a simple plan of action
What is Tempo?
The pace of which the battle is moving.
What are the four Offensive tasks?
Movement to contact, Attack, Exploitation, Pursuit.
What is Movement to contact?
designed to develop the situation and establish or regain contact.
What is Attack?
task that destroys or defeats enemy forces, seizes and secures terrain or both.
What is Exploitation?
an offensive task that usually follows the conduct of a successful attack and is designed to disorganize the enemy in depth.
What is Pursuit?
an offensive task designed to catch or cut off a hostile force attempting to escape with the aim of destroying it.
What are the 6 Purpose of Offense
(Dislocate, Isolate, Disrupt, Destroy enemy) Seize terrain, Deprive enemy of resources, develop intel, deceive and divert enemy, create secure environment for stability
