Contact areas on Posterior teeth as a generality, have proximal contact areas where?
- positioned in the middle 1/3 of the crown occlusocervically
- Mesial contact area is typically positioned more occlusally than the distal
- Contact areas are ovoid, slightly wider in a faciolingual dimension
What are the exceptions to the general rules to contact areas on posterior teeth
- Mesial contact area of mandibular 1st premolar is positioned more cervically (Sloped MMR) than the distal
- Contact areas on the medial surfaces of the maxillary & mandibular molars are located at the junction of the occlusal & middle 1/3
Describe the faciolingual contact areas of all teeth
- All teeth have faciolingual proximal contact areas located in the Middle 1/3 of the crown
- Posterior teeth tend to have theirs positioned slightly more toward the facial
