Mechanism of Action
Rapidly increase serum glucose levels. Short-term osmotic diuresis

Intracranial Hemorrhage.

Adverse Reactions
Extravasation leads to tissue to necrosis. Warmth, pain, burning, thrombophlebitis, rhabdomyolysis, hyperglycemia

12.5-25g slow IV; may be repeated as necessary

Special Considerations
Administer thiamine to patients prior to D50 administration if he or she is a known alcoholic.
Draw blood to determine glucose level prior to administration.
