Q

What is the methodology of your leadership technique and how will it be an asset to the team you lead?

A

“I would describe my leadership style as direct, and leading by example. I enjoy delegating tasks and taking the lead on projects, but I also like to stay involved and inspire my team by showing that I’m working hands-on to help them, too.
Example: In my current job, we once had an incident where our database system was down and we could not use our technology to get the job done. Well I quickly delegated tasks to my team of 4, but then I also got on the phone with my leadership to try and resolve the issue while also helping out with whatever tasks my team was working on. When they saw me doing this they realized the importance of the issue and worked hard as well.

Q

Tell me about a time you had to support a policy change? A change that you did not agree with? Why did you not agree? How did you convey the necessity of the change to your staff?

A

We had a process and guideline that we followed for projects and there was a certain client employee that did not like one of our processes and wanted to change it. The employee was able to convince our corporate security manager to tailor this process for her. I did not agree with this process because it would have not been the safest way to do the project and would have taken a considerably long time to complete the project. I talked to my team and told them my concerns were able to come up with a solution that fit both employees needs and ours.

Q

What is the purpose of employee discipline and your discussion process during this interaction? How can you tell the efficacy of your communication?

A

In some cases, employees are unaware of behavior and actions that prevent them from achieving performance levels. The purpose of workplace discipline is to alert employees to their behavior and actions and help them understand how these inhibit performance and productivity. I will be able to tell if my interaction was successful by asking questions at the end and confirm if they understood and have any questions for me.

Q

Discuss a time an employee or peer directly asked you about a mistake you made that negatively impacted them.

A

During one of my projects, I had to pull an employee to the side to correct behavior. He later told me that he felt like he was being called out in front of his peers and was embarassed when I wanted to speak to him on the side. I let him know that was not my intention and apoligized if it made him feel that way. I learned that it is best to quietly pull employees to the side when their performance needs to be corrected.

Discuss an instance where your conclusive actions were not in alignment with your premature conclusions?

A

When I first became a sup and coordinate projects. I had one move that made me realize how important communication was and how it could impact every project. I had one project where thought I fully coordinate everything and I put everything on email. But on day of project there were a few things that I did not expect to happen. So I realized how important it is to communicate with all different parties and the benefits of having in person meetings and following up.
