D Flashcards
describe the properties of a data set presented as a histogram or a frequency polygon; Histogram, frequency polygon, cumulative frequency distribution: Methods for displaying data graphically which allows us to visualize important characteristics quickly
1
Q
Histogram properties
A
A barchart of data that have been grouped into a frequency distribution
Bar height: Represents the absolute frequency for each return interval
2
Q
Frequency Polygon Properties
A
The midpoint of each interval is plotted on the x-axis and the absolute frequency for that interval is plotted on the y-axis. Connect neighboring points with a straight like (looks like a stock chart - eliminates the bars basically)
*Frequency polygon adds a degree of continuity to the representation of the distribution
