3
Q

how is haemorrhagic cystitis prevented with use of cyclophosphamide ?

A

hydration and mesna

mesna = 2-mercaptoethane sulfonate Na

a metabolite of cyclophosphamide called acrolein is toxic to ureothelium
mesa binds to and inactivates acrelin preventing haemorrhagic cystitis
