What are the procedures when handling cytotoxic drugs
The chemotherapy of cancer should be limited to specialists in oncology
Reconstituted by a trained personnel
Reconstituted in designated pharamcy areas
Wear protective clothing (gloves gowns mask )
Use eye protection
Avoided in preventative staff ( females of child bearing potential informed of hazard
Use local procedures of spillages, safe disposal including syringes containers and absorbent material
Monitor staff exposure to cytotoxins
What are the different drug classes for cytoxic drugs
Alkylating agents: cyclophosphamide. Ifosfamide and melphalan
Anthracyclines: daunorbucin, doxorubucin, epirubucin, idarubucin
Antimetabolites: methotrexate, mercaptopurine fluorouracil cytarabine
Cytotoxic antibiotics mitomycin and bleomycin
Platinum compounds: cicplatin oxaliplatin and carboplatin
Taxanes: cabazitaxel, docetaxel and paclitaxel
Vinca alkaloids: vinblastine vincristine and vindesine
