Cytoskeleton Flashcards
What is Cytoskeleton?
An internal framework of proteins that provide shape and structure to the cell
What are Microfilaments made of?
Globular protein called Actin
Where are Microfilaments found?
beneath the plasma membrane, supporting the cell shape
What are Microtubules made of?
Globular protein called Tubulin
Where do Microtubules run through?
Run throughout the cytoplasm, serving as tracks on which the organelles are able to move
What are Intermediate Filaments made of?
Several different Fibrous proteins
What do Intermediate Filaments form?
A cage that holds the Nucleus in place
Is the Cytoskeleton Dynamic?
Yes
What can Microfilaments, Microtubules, and Intermediate Filaments be?
Disassembled and Reassembled
