  • microcephaly
  • sensorineural deafness
  • encephalitiis (seizures)

  • may develop in immunocompetent individuals

  • common in HIV with low CD4
  • ‘blurred vision’
  • fundoscopy = retinal haemorrhages and necrosis (called ‘pizza’ retina)
  • IV ganciclovir is treatment of choice
