Cytology Unit Test Flashcards
What does cell division occur for
Growth, Repair, and Reproduction
What is Diffusion
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
What benefits does being a small cell give
small Volume to Surface Area ratio. This allows the cell to get more oxygen and carbon dioxide
What are the 4 stages in a cells cycle
Mitosis, Gap1, Gap2, Gap0, Synthesis
What is Mitosis
The division of a cell
What happens in Gap1
The cell prepares by gaining energy
What happens in Gap2
The cell prepares by gaining energy
What happens in Gap0
Nothing, the cell rests
What happens in synthesis
the DNA is copied
What are the stages of Mitosis
Interface, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
What happens in interface
interface is when the cell is not in mitosis. The cell has a nuclear membrane, 2 centrioles, DNA, and no spindle
What happens in Prophase
Nuclear membrane starts dissolving
Centrioles pairs start moving
DNA becomes chromosones
Spindle begins to develop
What happens in metaphase
Chromosones are lined up
centrioles are at the poles
full spindle
What happens in anaphase
The chromosones are serperated and begin moving towards the poles
What happens in telophase
The nucleaur membrane is reforming
What is cytokinisis
Cytokinesis is the pinching of the cell membrane
What are the 4 main body systems
The digestive system, the respiratory system, the circulatory system, and the muskoskeletal system
What are the 2 systems inside a plant
Root system and Shoot system
What are the 3 tissue systems inside a plant
Dermal TS, Vascular TS, and the Ground TS
What is the primary function of plants
To perform photosynthesis
What is the equation used to find specimen size
FOVhigh over #of x
What is the equation used to find drawing magnification
Drawing size over SS
What is the function of the cell membrane
to keep toxins out and allow nutrients in to the cell
What is the function of the cell wall
Gives the cell it’s strength and structure
What is the function of the ribosomes
Creates proteins
What is the function of the rough ER
transports proteins to the golgi apparatus
What is the function of the smooth ER
controls the movement of particles out of the nucleus
What is the function of the centrioles
assists with cell division
What is the function of the golgi
Packages and process’s proteins
What is the function of the nucleus
Is the control centre of the cell
What is the function of the nucleolus
Produces Ribosomes
What is the function of genetic material
Pattern in the DNA, gives instructions to the cell
What is the function of the nucleur membrane
Surrounds the nucleus
What is the function of a lysosome
Assists with digestion and waste removal
What is the function of the vacuole
Storage bubble for the cell
What is the function of the mitochondria
Produces energy
What is the function of the cristae
Is used to identify mitochondria
what is the function of the invagination
“mouth” of the cell, wraps around and absorbs food.
