Cytokines Flashcards
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-1a, IL-1b
Produced from Macrophages, B-cells, keratinocytes
Effects: Increased production of acute phase proteins, fever, lymphocyte activation macrophage activation, increased leukocyte/endothelial adhesion; involved in innate immunity inflammatory responses
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-2
T-cells
effects: proliferation of T-, B-, and NK- cells; T-cell differentiation in to different subsets including memory T cells
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-3
T-cells
effects: Stimulates and leads to maturation of multiple immature hematopoietic cell lineages
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-4
Th2-Cells
effects: Isotype switching to IgE upon stimulation of B-cells; Increased Th2 cellular proliferation and differentitation
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-5
Th-2 Cells

What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-10
Tregs, macrophages
effects: Inhibition of macrophages/dendritic cells and proinflammatory cytokine production; decreased expression of IL-12/Th1 response, costimulatory molecules, and MHC class II
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-12
Macrophages, dendritic cells
effects: Activator of Th1 response; Increased interferon-y, TNF-a production; enhances cytotoxic activity of T and NK cells (cell-mediated immunity) composed of p40 and p35 subunits (note: IL-23 also has p40 subunit but is paired with p19)
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-15
Monocytes
effects: Proliferation of T and NK cells, enhance survival of memory T cells
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-17
Th17 Cells
Effects: Increased cytokine and chemokine production of keratinocytes and macrophages –> key role in psoriasis pathogenesis
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-18
Macrophages
effects: Induces IFN-y production and NK-cell proliferation
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-22
Th2 cells, Th17 Cells
effects: Activation and proliferation of B-cells; proliferation of Th-17 cells; stimulation of NK Cells
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of IL-23
dendritic cells, macrophages
effects: Promotes Th17 proliferation and differentiation –> key role in psoriasis pathogenesis; composed of p40 and p19 subunits (note: IL-12 also has P40 subunit but is paired with P35)
What is the immune system source and the principle effects of TNF-a
Macrophages, mast cells, and lymphocytes
