A

When a child / YP commits and offence they are to be held accountable and encouraged to accept reaponsibility for their behavior.

What is Section 272 (1) of CYP&F 1989 Act?

A

Age of criminal responsibility. Murder / manslaughter 10+. Years 12-14, as above and 14 year+ offences. No child under 10 will be convicted.

A

Go easy mate. Criminal proceedings shiuld not be instituted against a child or YP if there is an alternative means of dealing with the matter. eg. Family group confrance, iwi groups.

What is Section 8 of CYP&F 1989 Act?

A

Keep upto date. If a police officer takes / makes any action / decision that significantly effects a child or YP they shall inform the parents / caregiver of their actions and why ASAP.

What is Section 215, 215a, 216, 217, 219 of CYP&F 1989 Act?

A

Children and YP must be given their caution rights when you generate: reasonable grounds to suspect, before questioning, during questioning when an offence is suspected, when charges it is decided charges are going to be made.
