The USA has better forecasting with over 20 weather satellites operating each day, frequent weather forecasts. People also have far better access to media such as phones with 103 phones per 100 people. There are also far better warning systems and evacuation procedures. They are also more educated about hurricanes.
What were the impacts of hurricane Sandy?
1833 people dies, 80% of the population of New Orleans was evacuated although some poor and elderly people were left behind. Damage was estimated at $108 billion, embankments collapsed.
