  • It was one of the most dangerous cyclones to hit australia

    -85% of australia’s banana crop
  • the bananas used to be roughly $3.25 a kilogram though became $13.50 a kiogram which is ten dollars more than it used to be
    -The demand for bananas began to fall because the price rationed the consumers demand for the bananas

  • Carnarvon north of perth
  • 100% of the banana crops were destroyed though they only accounted for 25% of the perth market and because of this queensland growers were able to make up fro the short supply
  • becasue of this the prices weren’t affected

  • this cyclone created severe damge
    -Innisfail queensland
  • 80% of australia’s banana crop more than 200,000 tonnes worth $300 million was destroyed
    -the price of bananas was roughly $2.50 per kilogram before larry though after became $15 per kilogram which is nearly 3 times the amount before hand.
  • the market for 4 years was slowly recovering and in 2010 it turned out that their was a oversupply of bananas which lowered prices to roughly $2.25 per kilo.

market impacts of cyclones

A

when a severe cyclone hits and destroys banana crops the price goes up due to the shortage. Though if the price is too high then consumers will stop buying as many bananas. Once the supply is back to normal then a new market equilibrium is made.
