Caused mass flooding and isolated the capital on a hill

A
- The government couldn’t get aid to people because they were surrounded by water
- $10 billion in damage
- All power lost
- Capital isolated which shut down the economy
- 2.4 million people severely effected
- Cities like Bassein and Pegu flooded
- No sanitation or clean water supplies
- Trees across roads so emergency services struggled to get around
- 102 000 killed but Burmese government only said 22 000
- 220 000 reported missing
- 190 kmph winds

A
- Food shortage as their main farming area was flooded
- Psychological impacts as no funerals so spirit haunts where they died according to folklore
- Homelessness
- 75% of buildings collapsed
but on the delta 95% collapsed

A
No investment into anything to do with preparation or forecasting
There was a rehousing effort but it was only really focused on the capital (Rangoon) so they don’t look destroyed to other countries
