Cyber Security: Fundamental IT Skills Flashcards
Fundamental IT Skills
What are the Computer Hardware Components?
- Central Processing Unit (CPU)
- Motherboard
- Random Access Memory (RAM)
- Storage Device like HDD / SSD
- Power Supply Unit (PSU)
- Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
- input devices
- output devices
What is the CPU?
It is the “brain” of the computer responsible for executing instructions and processing data
What is the motherboard?
The motherboard is the main circuit board that connects and allows communication between the CPU, memory, and other hardware.
What is the RAM?
Random Access Memory (RAM) serves as the computer’s short-term memory, storing data that is actively being used by the CPU for quick access.
What is the storage device?
The storage device, such as a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD), is where data is permanently stored, including the operating system, applications, and files.
What is the PSU?
The power supply unit (PSU) provides the necessary electrical power to run the components.
What is the GPU?
Graphics processing unit (GPU), dedicated for rendering images and videos, is important for tasks like gaming, video editing, and machine learning.
What do I need input and output devices for?
Input devices like keyboards and mice, and output devices like monitors and printers, enable users to interact with the system.
