Q

Can you introduce your self?

A

Hi, my name is Mia. I am a flight crew resources officer in Greater Bay Airlines. I am specialized in pilot recuitment and license conversion application. These duties required me to become a detail minded person with professional communication skills.

I take up my interest in flying after my very first and fun simulator experience in 2020. To know more about flying, I have enrolled in HKYAA and HKU Space PPL theory courses. Last year Nov, I had my initial flight training in NZ on C172. The experience is beyond words and it boosts my hunger to be a professional pilot.

Since I on board in GBA, I seize every opportunity to explore more airline operations. I have applied for jump seat experience on B737 to BKK and 2 full motion simulator trials.
The experience is eye-opening and reminds me to strive for excellent if I want to become an airline pilot.

Thank you for inviting me to be here again and feel free to ask me any questions.

Q

Why did you fail last time?

A

I struggled to express myself in my last interview. To improve, I seized the chance in GBA to talk to more pilots. For example, I took the initiative to talk with the captain on his diversion decision under typhoo.

Q

Pilot Attribute / Personal Strength / What makes a good pilot

A

Safety is the top priority in avaition, and safety mindset is one of the attributes that pilot should have.
It means :
Prevent and response to the unwanted situation.
Plan for the best and prepare for the worse.

(CPCS)
In order to perform a smooth operation, we always cross check the flight schedule manually and use different system to double confirm the meal figures in case any last minute changes.

(GBA) Route Fam
The cpatain taught me that every time that I open the door, I am required to see the cockpit door hole first to confirm who’s outside. In case any suspcious people try to break in. This is also what a pilot need to do when ever they open the cockpit door for somone.

Flight Fam (Spin)
In order to avoid the traffic and make sure we have enough high for the recover, we flew to a less traffic area and request for a higher altitude. Also, we perform some safety check before doing the manuoevers to make sure surrounding environment is safe to conduct.

Communication Skill
2 way open culture environemnt to allow people to listen and express their thoughts.

GBA
Arrange the recruitment business trip, I seeked advise and opinion from the pilots that involved to ensure they are happy with the arrangement or to listen to suggestion that can help me to plan better.

Teamwork
Working on different task but to achieve a common goal.
(GBA)
My team only has 3 people and we all perform in different function. However, our goal to fufill our recruitment target for every month and make sure we recruit the suitable candidates for our fleets.

(Pilot)
In cockpit, PF and PM all perform different task but the same common goal is to conduct a safe operation.

A

Physcially not strong
When I tried to release the parking brake from B737, it tooks me a lot of strength to step on the rudder and pull the control yoke. But that can be solved by going to gym room.

Shy reject people when they ask for a favor
I like to help people in my workplace. But sometimes it increases my workload and burden. Learn to reject people when needed.

Q

Any hobbies?

A

Watch movie. Currently my favourite movie is Barbie. It talks about how we want to becomes our ideal self and neglect to accept the real self. Sometimes, we need to accept our imperfectness and look for a way to improve. Just like being a junior pilot, we cannot be experiences as the senior but we can learn from them and transfer those knoweldges to becomes our asset

Q

What have you learn ?

A

Basic maneuvering and most important is how to be a responsible pilot
Every day before flight, I will pull the aircraft from the hanger and start to polish our windscreen, make sure the visibility from the cockpit is clear. Then we will be refueling the fuel and check the quality of fuel make sure everything is ok. Last but not least is to walk around check to observe any physical damage on the airframe.
This is what so called grass root aviation to learn the basic to take good care of the aircraft.

A

I have learn from the pilots that always be high Situation awareness of the surrounding environment. Especially transition from HK airspace cto China airspace, their ATC will becomes Mandrine. When we head back there is a big CB cloud a head, what I learnt is communicate with your partner and constant monitoring the weather radar, look for a possible gap to pass through.

Conflict with senior?

A

Not a conflict but different opinion, during the recruiting one of the candidate cannot provide latest Proficiency Check then we need to pause the application. My point is using previous report can also to prove the ability of candidate, but my boss insist. After chatting with him and understand the reason why, I learnt that lastest PC can show a person recent ability and performance under abnormal situation. Which is a reliable meauring scale .

23
Q

Do you think it is fair for others that you already know the hiring prerequisites?

A

I don’t see it is a problem. Although I may know the desirable trait, but I cannot fake it, it is all come from my past experience to build up. I believe in an interview, people can be easy to find out if they lying. Everthing that on my cv and my experience is through my hard work to build up.
