CVS Flashcards
1
Q
4 classical patterns of ischaemic heart disease:
A
- Angina pectoris
- Myocardial infarction
- Chronic ischaemic heart disease w heart failure
- Sudden cardiac death
2
Q
Difference between angina and myocardial infarction:
A
- death of cardiac muscle occurs in MI
- complete occlusion of coronary artery
- only sub-endocardial regions of heart are affected
3
Q
Heart failure
A
When the heart is unable to meet the body’s demands although the venous filling pressure is normal/raised.
4
Q
Congestive heart failure refers to..
A
Failure of both sides of the heart
5
Q
Valvular stenosis
A
Stiffening of heart valves, leading to narrowed size of valve opening -> restrict blood flow
6
Q
Mitral valve regurgitation
A
- valve between the left heart chambers dont close completely, allowing blood to leak backward across the valve.
7
Q
What is the forward and backward failure of heart failure?
A
Forward: diminished Cardiac Output
Backward: Venous Congestion
