CVS 1: Anatomy of the Heart and Circulation Flashcards
What surrounds the heart?
The Pericardium
How many layers (and sublayers) does the pericardium have? Name them
2 layers
- Fibrous
- Serous
a. Parietal= lines the fibrous layer of the pericardium
b. Visceral= adheres to the heart
What are the four chambers of the heart?
Left and Right atrium
Left and Right ventricles
Which vessels come out of the heart?
Vena cava–> Pulmonary artery (trunk) –> Pulmonary vein –> Aorta
What are the three parts to the aorta?
- Ascending aorta
- Aortic arch
- Descending
What are the branches of the aorta?
- Brachiocephalic trunk
a. Right subclavian artery
b. Right common carotid artery - Left common carotid artery
- Left subclavian artery
What are the two veins that are derived from the brachiocephalic veins?
- Internal jugular vein
- Subclavian vein
(you have a right and left of these)
What is formed when the right and left brachiocephalic veins join?
Superior vena cava
Which two valves are found on the right side of the heart?
- Tricuspid valve
2. Pulmonary valve
Which 3 cusps make up the tricuspid valve?
- anterior cusp
- septal cusp
- posterior cusp
How many and which cusps make up the pulmonary valve?
- anterior semilunar
- left semilunar
- right semilunar
Which valve is found on the left hand side? and which cusps make up this valve?
Mitral Valve
- mitral anterior cusp
- mitral posterior cusp
What are the two main coronary arteries?
The Right and the Left coronary arteries
Where does the right coronary artery originate from?
Just above the right cusp of the aortic valve
Where does the left coronary artery originate from?
Just above the left cusp of the aortic valve
