CVPR Overview/CV Anatomy Flashcards
Describe the functions of the cardiovascular system.
To distribute gas and nutrients, remove waste, and contribute to homeostasis
Describe the series and parallel arrangement of the circulatory system, and its purposes.
The heart itself is arranged in series, and essentially the whole body is in parallel
Describe the basic anatomy of the heart, including the arrangement and names of the chambers, valves, and major vessels.
Dual pump!
Tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, aortic
Describe the blood flow pathway through the heart.
VC->RA>RV>Pulm Art>lungs>Pulm vein>LA>LV>Body
Describe the major types of blood vessels.
Arteries and Veins
Aorta, largest
Artery, thick walled
Arterioles, thicker walls and highly innervated (site of vascular resistance)
Venules and veins, thin walls, known as capacitance vessels, has one way valves
Vena Cava, two branches
Describe the arrangement of the microcirculation.
Capillaries, wall is single cell thick
Describe the function of the lymphatic system.
Excess interstitial fluid that is to be delivered back into the blood
