cvp placement and monitoring Flashcards
name 3 (of 4) physical potential complications/mishaps in CVP’s
- pneumo
- infection
- bleeding
- carotid cannulation (need vas surgeon to remove)
what does the a wave in a cvp waveform signfy?
Atrial contraction
what does the c wave in a cvp waveform signify?
Cuspid (ie tricuspid) elevation during early vent contraction
what does the v wave in a cvp waveform signify?
venous return against a closed tricuspid valve.
what are the two descent waves in a CVP? describe each
X descent: downward displacement during ventricular systole (ie volume of RV reduced due to blood being ejected into pulm art)
Y descent: tricuspid valve opening during diastole–ie Releases RA and vena cava pressure established when tricuspid was closed.
what are the 3 port colors and fxn on a CVP catheter
Blue: transduce CVP (just proximal to tip)
Brown: fluid admin (at tip)
white: medication infusion line (most proximal)
CVP contraindications (name 3 of the 4)
- renal cell tumor extending into the right atrium
- fungating tricuspid valve vegetation
- ipsilateral carotid endarterectomy
- relative contraindications in coag (cuz cant apply direct art pressure should it get damaged)
