What is cardiomyopathy?
Functional abnormalities of the heart muscle.
e.g. Dilated cardiomyopathy ( common)
What is mitral incompetence / mitral regurgitation?
Failure of mitral valve to close allowing a reflux of blood from the left ventrical of the heart to the left atrium.
What is mitral stenosis?
Narrowing of the opening of the mitral valve.
Symptoms: patient has a diastolic murmur.
Name four health problems caused by hypertension.
Left ventricular hypertrophy.
Aneurysm and STROKE.
Atherosclerosis
Heart failure
What is congested heart failure?
Clue: which causes breathing problems
Blood congested in the veins and lungs.
Left ventricular heart failure: blood accumulates in veins and lungs.
Right: legs, abdomen, and liver.
What is a high blood pressure?
140/90 mmHg
What is orthopnoea?
Breathlessness when lying flat.
What is septal defect?
The hole in the wall between the left and right ventricul or atrium Chambers
What is infected endocarditis
Inflammation of the lining of the heart cavity caused by bacterial infection. Temporary or permanent damage to the heart valves may result.
