CV Phys Review - Nordgren Flashcards
1
Q
How do you compare cardiac stroke volume during particular intervals on an EKG?
A
Look at the R-R interval
variable lengths of time = passive filling
Longer passive filling period –> results in larger SV
2
Q
What way does the VR curve shift with volume loss? Volume increase?
A
- Loss of volume (hemorrhage, diuresis, severe dilation/loss of tone):
- VR curve decreased (down, left)
- Increase volume:
- VR curve increased (up, right)
3
Q
Which way does the Cardiac function curve shift with a change in contractility, HR, sympathetic activity, or heart failure?
A
- Loss of contractility, decreased sympathetic activity, heart failure, decreased HR:
- Decreased CO
- CO curve shifts downward
- Increased contractility, increased Sympathetic activity:
- Increased CO
- CO curve shifts upward
4
Q
How does Nitroglycerin affect the Cardiac function vs. VR curve?
A
- Nitro:
- vasodilation
- decreased venous return
- VR curve shifts downward
5
Q
How does Furosemide affect the Cardiac function vs. VR curve?
A
- Diuretic
- decrease volume
- decreased VR
- shift VR curve down
6
Q
How does Metoprolol affect the Cardiac function vs. VR curve?
A
- Beta blocker
- decrease HR
- decreased CO
- shift Cardiac function curve downward
