Current Flashcards
What is current?
rate of flow of charge
What is the equation for current?
I = Q/T
What is conventional current?
positive to negative terminal
What is the electron current
negative to positive terminal
What is the coulomb ?
amount of charge that passes a point in 1 second when current in 1amp
What must an ammeter be in in a circuit?
In series
What happens to current in series? why
It stays the same
one direction to flow in
What happens to current in paralllel? Why
Splits
it has more direction to flow in
Kirchoffs 1st law? - conservation of charge?
total current entering a junction is equal to total current leaving a junction
What is special about ammeters to limit error.
They have very low resistance to avoid affecting current.
What happens to current in series and why?
Stays the same since entering rate must equal leaving rate otherwise electrons would be lost.
(Links to Kirchoff’s 1st Law)
What happens to current in a parallel circuit?
Current splits along paths since it has more direction to flow through. Total Current = sum of currents in each part
What law would be broken if current was lost in series?
Conservation of charge (kirchoffs 1st law)
