Rani ki vav
• Located in Gujarat’s
UNESCO World Heritage
It is located on the banks of Saraswati River.
•It was built by the Solanki dynasty’s queen Udayamati in the 11th century as a memorial to her deceased husband Bhimdev I.
• Rani-ki-Vav was built in the complex Maru-Gurjara
architectural style. It highlights the sanctity of water.
The central theme is the Dasavataras, or ten
incarnations of Vishnu, including Buddha.
• It has a number of Parvati or Gauri sculptures, which are meant to represent the queen as a widow, who builds the stepwell as a means of penance;
There are 700–800 sculptures of deities and mythological figures.
