Curcular Motion Flashcards
Uniform circular motion
An object moving in a circle of a radius r with constant speed v
Centripetal acceleration
Exerted towards the center of the circle with a magnitude of v^2/r
Perpendicular to the velocity vector at all times
Law of universal gravitation
States that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them
4 fundamental forces
Gravitational force
Electromagnetic force
Strong nuclear force
Weak nuclear force
Kepler 1st law
The path of each planet around the sun is an elipse with the sun at one focus the sum of F1P and F2P is the same for all paints on the curve
Kepler 2nd law
Each planet moves so that an imaginary line drawn from the sun to the planet sweeps out in equal areas in equal periods of time
Kepler 3rd law
The ratio of the squares to the periods T of any two planets revolving around the sun is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their mean distance from the sun, the mean distance equals the semimajor axis (a)
(T1/T2)^2=(a1/a2)^3
