a social group in which subscribed to the norms/values of mainstream society but also have some norms/values that are distinct from the rest of society

expectations within society that allow and aid social regulation and function
(ie. queues/manners/table etiquette)
what are values?

goals that encourage morality and an understanding of good vs bad.
(ie. aspirations/goals/achievements/freedom of speech)
what is high culture?

the culture of the elite and upper class, with privileged positions within society and economics
(ballet/operas/polo/hunting/hired workers + live-in staff)
what is popular culture?

the culture of ordinary people, who engage in mass produced forms of entertainment or items in everyday life.
(ie. cinema/football/fast food/tv shows/mainstream education)
what is global culture?

global cultures have emerged as a result of globalisation and therefore cultural homogeneity is a key feature.
(ie. fast-food chains/brands/alcohol + tea/cars/famous musicians + artists)

what is cultural diversity?

what is multiculturalism?
refers to different cultures living equally within society, while acknowledging and welcoming the presence of this range of different groups
