Culture
the body of material traits, customary beliefs, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people
Habit
a repetitive act that a particular individual performs
Custom
a repetitive act of a group, performed to the extent that it becomes characteristic of the group
Folk culture
traditionally practiced by small groups living in isolated rural areas
Popular culture
found in large, diverse societies that share certain habits despite differences in other personal characteristics
Material culture
the aspect of social reality grounded in the objects and architecture that surround people
Nonmaterial culture
refers to the nonphysical ideas that people have abt their culture, includes beliefs, values, rules, norms, morals, language, organizations, and institutions
Cultural identity
feeling of belonging to a group
Taboo
a restriction of behavior imposed by religious law or social custom
Folk music
music that originates in traditional popular culture or that is written in such a style; typically of unknown authorship; transmitted orally
Folklore
the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth
Cultural landscape
a term used in the fields of geography, ecology, and heritage studies, to describe a symbiosis of human activity and environment
Acculturation
assimilation to a different culture, typically the dominant one
Assimilation
process in which a minority group or culture comes to represent a society’s majority group or assume the values, behaviors, and beliefs of another group whether fully or partially
Ethnic enclave
a geographic area with high ethnic concentration, characteristic culture identity, and economic activity
