In Zimbabwe, women aren’t allowed to own land. And even when land is inherited, women aren’t allowed to keep it. It would pass on next in line in terms of an heir who was a male. And not long ago, a case was tried in Zimbabwe where the court ruled unanimously that women should not be able to inherit land because of the consideration in African society, amongst other factors, was to the effect that women were not able to look after their original family of birth because of their commitment to their new family via marriage.
