Jazz became an obsession amongst young people
African americans who had come from the countryside(soutj east and west) brought it
Jazz captured the imagination of both white and american youth
1920’s became the jazz age because of its popularity
Created new dances(charlston) and new styles of behaviour
These styles were summed up into the idea of flappers
Older generation saw jazz and anything associated with it as a corrupting influence
New celebrities like louis armstrong became very important
Encouraged people to go out to jazz clubs
Shows bigger differences between countryside and towns
