Define cultural bias
Tendency to judge all people in terms of own cultural assumptions
ignores effects of cultural differences- seen as abnormal or inferior
Define ethnocentrism
Belief that one’s own group is central or even superior
Define cultural relativism
Belief you can’t judge behaviour properly unless viewed in the context of the culture it originated
Define imposed etic
Technique or theory developed in one culture and using it to study the behaviour in another culture
Define an etic approach
Looks at behaviour from outside of a given culture and attempts to describe those behaviours as universal
Define an emic approach
Looks at behaviour from within a given culture and identifies behaviours specific to that culture
