He gave Cuba a new constitution in 1940 that (1) promised land reform (2) gave women that vote, and (3) established the 8-hour work day
Following his presidency, Batista lived in the US for 8 years
His political methodology began to shift from a populist ideology to an authoritarian approach

Approved on May 22, 1903, the Platt Amendment was a treaty between the US and Cuba that attempted to protect Cuba’s independence from foreign intervention. It permitted extensive US involvement in Cuban international and domestic affairs for the enforcement of Cuban independence
