Stages of Lang Acquisition
1) preproduction/silent period. 0-6 months. Gestures, nonverbal response
2) Early Production. 6m-1 year. EL use limited words/sentences. 1-2 word response. 1000 words
3) Speech Emergence. 1-3 years. Simple sentences, grammatical and pronunciation errors
4) Intermediate Fluency. 3-5 years 6k words. Complex sentences. Increased grammatic and pronunciation skills.
5) Advanced Fluency. similar to native speaker. 5-7 years. CALPS focus

- phonics instruction (s + h = SH), morphemes (re + do) Phonemes are just the base, letters ( b- s- r- ) common letters, structures, sight words, etc, decode
- model as a teacher
Reading fluency and Comprehension have a strong relation
if can read fluent, can focus on the meaning instead of figuring out what the actual word is
