What are the signs and symptoms?
CTAS 1
Marked pallor
Coold skin
Diaphoresis
Weak/thready pulse
Hypotension
Postural syncope
Significant tachycardia OR braycardia
Ineffecive ventilation or oxgenation
Decreased level of consciousness
Could appear flushed, febrile, toxic - septic shock

What does that mean in terms of signs and symptoms?
CTAS 2
Pale
hx of Diaphoresis
Unexplained tachycardia
hx of postural hypotension
Feeling faint
Supected hyoptension

Pt has vital signs at the upper AND lower ends that are normal as they relate to the presenting complaint - especiallly if values don’t match up with general complaint

This usualy means the patient is unable to protect the airway
They respond to pain or loud noise only WITHOUT purpose
Pt could be having continuous seizures OR progressive deterioration of LOC

Pt has an altered LOC meaning GCS of 10-13
They’re respose is inappropriate to verbal stimuli
They’ll have loss of orientation to PERSON, PLACE, or TIME.
They’ll have altered behaviour and a new impairment of recent history

Pt is ‘normal’ with a GCS of 14-15
CTAS 3, 4, or 5

Pt is immuno-compromised neutropenia, chemotherapy, immune-suppressive drugs (including steroids)

What are the S+S or qualifiers?
CTAS 2
There’s evidence of infection
They’re SIRS positive (HR is GREATER/EQUAL to 90bpm AND RR is GREATER/EQUAL to 20bpm)
Ther’s evidence of hemodynamic compromise, respiratory distress, AND decreased level of conciousness

Pt apears unwell with LESS then 3 SIRS positive criteria but looks ill (flushed, lethargic, and anxious or agitated

- massive vaginal hemorrhage
- Extremity muscle compartments
- Fractures or dislocations
- Deep lacerations
- any uncontrolled bleeding
- iliopsoas muscle and hip (hip flexor joint)

Pt has congenitial bleeding disorders, severe liver failer, or anticoagulant therapy AND bleeding:
- moderate or minor bleeds
- nose bleeds
- mouth bleeding Iincluding gums)
- Joints bleeding (hemathrases)
- Menorrhagia
- Abrasions and superficial lacerations

What do all the levels stand for?
0-5
0 - obvioulsy dead
1 - resuscitation - using interventions
2 - Emergency - threat to life/limb/function
3 - Urgent - could progress to serious problems
4 - less urgent
5 - non-urgent
