CT Basics Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how motion artifact appears on CT
A
Distorted, or blurred anatomy
2
Q
What is volume averaging and how does it affect images
A
Distortion that occurs from creating 3-D slice to a 2-D image.
Can cause discrepancies in density / obscure margins
3
Q
What is Beam Hardening artifact
A
Low energy photons are preferential absorbed by a dense object, only allowing only high energy photons to pass “hardening the beam”
Appears as streaking
4
Q
What is Quantum Mottle artifact
A
Occurs when using lower doses of radiation are used (less photons hitting detector)
Results in salt / pepper grainy appearance
