CST Test Part 3 Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the process of Falx release, both in terms of how you do it, and in term of what responses you might feel in a patient’s Cranio-Scaral process

A

This contact involves cradling both the falx cerebri and the falx crebelli between the 2 hands with a hand on the front of the head (along the sagittal suture) and a hand underneath on the occiput.
The falxes are then extending from one hand to the other.
Make sure the head is well centred and then bring your second hand on the frontal area, with the heel on the bregma and fingers resting on the forehead (not invading the eyebrows) and your two hands meet at their heels.

Response - follow extremes of rhythmic motion drawing into expansion and contraction, build up on tension or pressure follow to stillness until release and softening occurs.
You may feel a stillpoint and then a sense of a release within the membranes.

Q

Describe the process of Mastoid Tip contact

A

Place both hands under the back of the head with one hand resting on top of the other and the fingers are crossing over the fingers of the other hand, tips of fingers extending into upper neck. Rest pads of thumbs lightly on the tips of the mastoid processes.
While holding follow motion into twists, turns, and flexion and into points of tension until a point of stillness/balances/tension and wait for it to release and normal cranial sacral rhythm returns.

Q

What purposes would a Mastoid Tip contact be particularly useful

A

To assist the release of occiput-mastoid suture, jugular foramen, balance of temporal and upper cervical spine, glue ear, ear infections, tinnitus, headaches, and possible digestive / respiratory and cardiac symptoms, to integrate the area of temporal/occiput/cervical region.
Drainage of the Eustachian tubes from the middle ear

Q

Describe specifically the symptoms of sciatica

A

Neurological pain running down the posterior thigh to knee, pins and needles in the leg/ ankle/ front of foot, unable to flex foot without feeling pain.
Can be due to slipped disc, trauma, stress, emotional holding.

Q

Compare and contrast the functions of the Sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems

A

Sympathetic -
• fight and flight
• release of adrenaline from adrenal glands
• Catabolic reaction
• Release of ATP to muscles for energy to run away
• Temp control
• Dilation of pupils and bronchi

Parasympathetic
•	rest and digest
•	Anabolic
•	salivary glands release more saliva to aid digestion
•	pupils contract
•	lowers blood pressure and heart rate
•	build-up of resources in system

Q

Why is an understanding of the anatomy of the nervous system, in terms of both spinal outflow and distribution, potentially useful in diagnosis and treatment in CS therapy? 2 examples one relating to the somatic and automatic nervous system.

A

Clear picture and diagnosis of cause(s), so appropriate and effective treatment can be given.
Parasympathetic - Asthma T2-6 lungs
Somatic - Ulnar nerve C 7,8 T1, affects digits 4 & 5

Q

How might you identify emotional characteristics in a patient through CS process?

A

Observation, quality, location, breathing, relevant area of body holds, (heart, solar plexus, sub occipital, etc.) at start and end of treatment to see what changes and healing has occurred.
