When do you hold the patient or cassette?
When there is no other way to gain a diagnostic image.
Who can hold patient or cassette to gain a diagnostic image?
- people accompanying patient
- Non radiation personnel
- Radiation personnel
When you hold patients what can’t you be and what do you need to use?
Under 18 pregnant Wear: - lead apron - gloves Cannot be placed in the primary beam
Why do we want to minimize dose to kids?
- They live longer so have greater chance of suffering from cancer
- They are radiosensitive
- Increased chance of retakes due to Um
For kids what 4 procedure must you do when taking xrays of kids?
- Each view shall be examined, where practicable before deciding to take a further view.
- Fluoroscopy shall in general be used only when general radiography not sufficient.
- There shall be “strong Justification “for CT, DSA & cinefluoroscopy
- Cinefluoroscopy shall be restricted to cardiac studies
with regards to equipment what must you have, to reduce dose to kids?
A generator - 200 mA with a high power rating and a short exposure time
AEC - fast response time, correct size with a suitable configuration for kids.
For kids what do you have to do while taking xrays?
Take of their clothes
No grid - little scatter
AEC used rather than manual
Why do you need to build rapport with kids?
To decrease patient dose and risk of repeats because they wont move. If they move use an immobilization device.
In paediatric xrays what organ looks like a pathology?
Thymus
